Founded in 2000, Congregation Tifereth Yisrael was created by a group of dedicated individuals with a shared vision of creating a Sepharadic Synagogue focused on Yemeni traditions. With the initial guidance of Rabbi Yair Yaish, we have grown into a community of over 300 members who have found a home within our walls.
Our goal is to preserve the sanctity of the Yemenite laws and customs which have remained unchanged for nearly 2000 years. From worship to community, from Yemen of the past to the modern world, and from our homeland in Eretz Yisrael to our adopted neighborhoods, we continue the traditions carried forth by those before us.
As the first and only Yemenite synagogue in New York City, we invite you to partake in our rich and beautiful heritage according to the Baladi traditions. From the moment you enter our doors you will be greeted by the melodies of original Baladi prayers and liturgy. We warmly welcome all to join us on Shabbat for an authentic Yemenite experience and to become part of our unique community.
